Learning a language is like learning anything else in life; what you need to know is a few tricks, tips and shortcuts to make the learning process easier.

1.     Prepare the right mindset

Before you even pick the book or the dictionaries of any language, make sure that you are not thinking pessimistically. You will not be receptive to learn a new language if you start with negative attitude. Shun your pessimism and think what you can.

2.     Learn all the alphabet, including pronunciation

Before you cultivate the land of the language, make sure you understand the soil basics of the language. Learn the alphabet if you are not familiar with the “letter” of the language.  For example, Japanese, or French, in this case take the time to learn this systematically.

Engage yourself to watch popular television shows. Engage with popular culture is a great way to pick the different dialects and the colloquial phrases that are not always found in the formal dictionaries.

4.     Knowing about food

To know the culture of a country you should immerse in the cuisine of any country. Food culture reflects country’s culture. Indulging in the food culture will lead you know the vocabularies of that country. Choose the dishes and eateries carefully to get the support of the vocabularies.  

5.     Revert back to your childhood

Tap into the inner child in you. The pictures, bright images, funny analogies that you learnt in your school. They were all fun in learning language. Similarly, try such imageries to attach to your new lexicon.

6.     Fix a Goal

Your goal must be realistic and sensible for learning the language. For example, “be able to learn French in 1 year.” Or “to be able to learn the navigation in a 4 month.” Etc. It will also be a great help if you visit the place where they speak the language.

7.     Never worry about translating

When there are huge differences in the native tongue and another language, it is better to try thinking of the sentence as a whole, rather than thinking words in isolation for translation.

8.     Learn common words

Never try to learn more and more words. 1000, 10000, 50000 etc. it will not help you get the fluency of words anymore. To be fluent learn most common vocabularies and avoid misusing your time on vocabularies focusing on some themes.
